Play therapy is a way for children to communicate. They are most comfortable with the expression of their feelings through the world of play. Play allows the child to recreate emotional experiences they are struggling with internally. Children can gain acceptance of their feelings, greater self control, increased decision making skills and problem solving skills as well as a changed view of their personal world.
Who benefits from play therapy?
Play therapy is tailored for children, depending on their developmental stage, ages 3 to 11 years old. Children who struggle with issues such as behavioral difficulties, abuse or neglect, low self-worth, stress, anxiety, family instability and difficulty with social and emotional adjustment have been shown to benefit from play therapy.
